Module 8 Review
The development of body image was discussed in this module with significant inputs from both genetic (personality, physical attributes and culture) and external factors (stressful situations, influence from ridicule and friends and family) as well as general social pressures, standing out and past incidences having an impact. Dysfunctional beliefs and thoughts such as body avoidance and body checking are issues that need to be addressed. Learning to challenge these thoughts using the CBT framework is helpful in reducing poor body image and negative thoughts about our body.
